1989 - Campeonato Mundial de Esporte Protótipos

Como era esperado, principalmente pela participação no ano anterior, a Sauber-Mercedes dominou o campeonato em 1989 com seu modelo C9/88. A equipe alemã teve como oponente mais direto, o surpreendente Porsche 962 C, que ganhou em Dijon. A Jaguar não esteve bem no certame, conquistando como melhor colocação um segundo lugar em Jarama. Além de vencer 7 das 8 corridas e o campeonato, a Mercedes também triunfou em Le Mans, prova que não contou pontos para o mundial. O piloto que sagrou-se campeão foi o francês Jean-Louis Schlesser.
