A temporada do campeonato de resistência teve o domínio dos carros Jaguar, com seis vitórias, inclusive em a tão sonhada Le Mans onde duelaram com a Porsche, porém, seus rivais mais perigosos ao longo do campeonato foram os Sauber-Mercedes, que surpreenderam, sendo os mais rápidos em quatro corridas. O inglês Martin Brundle sagrou-se Campeão Mundial de pilotos de endurance.
